Did you know today is #DeepDay? 🌊 While we often think of Antarctica as an unexplored frontier, there`s an even more mysterious realm lurking beneath its icy surface — the ocean depths surrounding the continent. Despite its reputation as an icy wilderness, the Antarctic deep sea is teeming with life.
Using new technologies like the Icefin submarine, researchers have begun to explore the world beneath the Thwaites Ice Shelf. Sea anemones, crustaceans, and fish flourish in the darkness, challenging our preconceptions about where life can thrive.
Yet, with the vast majority of Antarctica`s deep ocean still unexplored, there`s much more to discover. Check out the link in our bio to learn more!

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but how about a thousand sounds? 📸🔊 Listen closely and you’ll hear the chirping of penguin calls echoing across the icy landscape, the exhale of whales as they breach the surface, and the roar of icebergs crashing into the water. But just as a discordant note can disrupt a symphony, threats like climate change and overfishing are throwing off the harmony of this pristine wilderness.
But there`s hope! Scientifically backed conservation actions like marine protected areas (MPAs) can restore harmony to the Southern Ocean. Global leaders have an opportunity at a CCAMLR symposium in July to harmonize krill management with MPAs. The time is now to #ProtectAntarctica.
